The company joined the 29th Week against Food Waste promoted by AECOC, coinciding with the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste, celebrated on September XNUMX.
El Corte Inglés, a company belonging to the Forum for Madrid, joined the event once again 7th Week Against Food Waste promoted by AECOC, the Association of Manufacturers and Distributors, coinciding with the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste, which was celebrated on Sunday, September 29. From Monday, September 23, to October 30, the company launched Special awareness-raising and information actions with clients and employees, through specific signage, public address systems, the corporate intranet, the commercial website, app and social networks.
This initiative emerged as part of the company's Plan on food waste, whose objectives are focused on three main lines: prevention, redistribution and awarenessIn this sense, the company continues to bet onMica Bread", an exclusive beer made with unsold leftover bread from El Corte Inglés department stores in Valladolid, which thus becomes one of the raw materials for this product, preventing waste. This project, which is yielding positive results, was launched in collaboration with the Ribera del Duero craft brewery (Mica), which is responsible for brewing this beer that is distributed in all El Corte Inglés and Hipercor stores, as well as in Supercor supermarkets in Valladolid.
In addition, El Corte Inglés donated in the 2023 financial year more than 4.800.000 kilos of food which, being safe for consumption, were not marketed. This is a solidarity initiative that seeks a better use of food, its redistribution and awareness of the problem of food waste. The company is thus committed to the more supportive use, and incorporates a specific commitment within its Corporate Social Responsibility plan.
This edition celebrated the 12th anniversary of the signing of a voluntary commitment promoted by AECOC, through which El Corte Inglés, among other distribution companies, committed to promoting measures to prevent waste and give a second life to food surpluses. The company thus responds to social concerns and needs in this area, but also to the requirements of the future Law on the Prevention of Food Loss and Waste that will come into force shortly.
